Current Research in Egyptology Conference – CRE IX

Information for all Attendees and Presenters at CRE IX

  • Please note that registrations for the conference and meal are now closed.
  • The conference will be held at the Michael Smith Building in the centre of the University Campus.
The venue is numbered 71 on the University Campus map, which can be viewed or downloaded as a .pdf document here.
To get to the venue from the centre of Manchester, you should go along Oxford Road, past the Manchester Museum and the Whitworth Hall on your right hand side. Turn left down Dover Street, just before the Natwest Bank on Oxford Road. CRE IX signs will be posted around here to help. Proceed down Dover Street for 100 yards, then turn right at the University Campus sign, passing alongside the traffic barrier. The Michael Smith Building is the modern building on the left.
Click here to get a more detailed map of the central campus, showing the venue and museum, and also the car park available during the conference. This map shows the location of the nearest bus stops along Oxford Road.
  • The Registration Desk for CRE IX will be in the foyer of the Michael Smith Building, and will be manned on Wednesday 9th January from 9:00am to 10:15am.
  • Please note that car parking during the conference will only be available in the university's public Cecil Street car park, across Oxford Road, behind the University library. This is no more than about 10 minutes walk from the Michael Smith Building, and marked on the central campus map. The charge for parking in the car park is £3.00 per day, payable at the manned barrier. There are no spaces available in staff car parks adjoining the Michael Smith Building.
  • If you wish to join other delegates for the conference dinner, you will need to pay £15 in advance in cash at the Registration Desk when you first arrive for the conference. Note that places for the meal are all now allocated and we will not be accepting any further places. The dinner will be an Indian meal in nearby Rusholme. The restaurant, Al Bilal, is 3 bus stops along Oxford Road, has a small adjoing car park and is about 15 minutes walk from the conference venue.
  • ALL delegates must wear their lapel badges at all times to gain entry to the conference theatre and the main foyer.
Security for the Michael Smith Building is very tight. Conference and Reception staff with be checking to prevent unauthorised access.
  • Refreshments, bookstalls, book signings and conveniences are only accessible through the main foyer.

Please note that we are required to use a University laptop with a valid network registration. We will have a number of laptops available as stand-by, if need be.
  • You should embed any non-standard fonts you may wish to use in your presentation. Instructions on how to do this can be found here. We will be using laptops equipped with fonts for WinGlyph and Inscribe 2004.
  • Please let us know by email if you need to use an Overhead Projector.
  • The programme for the three day conference is very full and therefore please ensure your presentation does not exceed 20 minutes, or 10 minutes for a brief presentation. These times will be strictly adhered to.

If you have any questions before the conference starts, please contact the organising committee at the address or email address below. We will be only too pleased to help and answer any concerns or questions.
